BSWP Activities

BSWP meetings are held on the second Monday of the month at 7:15 p.m. in the Ford-Mateer Classroom of Carnegie Museum of Natural History, 4400 Forbes Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA (Oakland). For directions of how to enter the building for our meetings, go to the calendar page, top left column. 

Members and guest speakers present topics of botanical interest. The public is invited to attend these meetings.

Field trips, led by members of the Society, are open to everyone, including non-members. Registration for BSWP field trips

is not required. Trips last 3 to 4 hours but one can leave at any time. For questions, contact the trip leader listed in the newsletter, or Loree Speedy. Wear shoes that can get wet or muddy. Water and a hat are recommended in the summer. 


Extended field trips are scheduled to specific areas of interest and are usually weekend-long. Some of these places have been the Bruce Peninsula in Canada, Dolly Sods in West Virginia, Presque Isle Sand Dunes in Erie, Cranberry Glades, Cranesville Swamp, Canoe Creek State Park, and Tionesta Scenic Area.
